MesmrEwe member. January 2015. "Here Comes the Bride" is a secular piece of music and most if not all Catholic Churches will not allow it to be used for this very reason! You need to chat with your Church's musician/organist for what is/isn't allowed. This can be eye opening AND stressful!

June 2012. I would just ask them if this is customary. I would imagine the only reason the plate would be passed at a wedding would be for the reason Agape mentioned. I can see where one might find it an odd time to be asking for money, but the collection (just like at any church) is to further the good works of the church.

A little background - my fiance and I have a daughter and are getting married in a Catholic church with a Catholic ceremony. The priest who is marrying us is a family friend of my fiancé's. He baptized our daughter and is very supportive of the marriage. So I suppose we're starting the ceremony off on a non traditional foot already.
