The White House blocked an Associated Press reporter from attending an event in the Oval Office after demanding the news agency alter its style on the Gulf of Mexico, which President Donald Trump has ordered renamed to the Gulf of America.

The wire service said the decision stemmed from a style guidance to continue using the name Gulf of Mexico instead of Gulf of America.

The Associated Press has said it would refer to the Gulf of Mexico “by its original name while acknowledging” President Trump’s choice to rename the body of water.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House fired the inspector general for the U.S. Agency for International Development on Tuesday, U.S. officials said, a day after his office warned that the Trump administration’s dismantling of USAID had made it all but impossible to monitor $8.2 billion in unspent humanitarian funds.

Paul Martin is one of around 20 inspectors general the administration has pushed out despite objections from lawmakers who say the firing methods violate statutes.
